Meet Our Team

Matt Brauer

Matt Brauer

President and CEO

Born in Winston-Salem, but spending most of his life in Ohio and Pennsylvania, Matt brings over 25 years’ experience in the construction industry having worked for two different ENR top-300 construction firms. Matt holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Xavier University and an Associate’s Degree in Construction Management from the University of Cincinnati. He has worked as a carpenter, foreman, superintendent, engineer, estimator, and senior project manager on major commercial and civil infrastructure projects throughout the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic.

Matt has taught courses and provided training in both CPM Scheduling and Estimating. With a history of solving complex problems and completing difficult projects under budget and on time, he was motivated to purchase the assets of Beach Painting in 2013.

In 2016, he formed Beach Construction Group, LLC., to allow for an expansion of Beach Painting's construction capabilities. The NC Licensing Board accepted his application for a general contractor's license and he successfully passed the NC Residential Contractor's Exam in June of 2016.

Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, Liz, and their four daughters – taking in all that the OBX has to offer. On weekends, he can be found on the beach, the golf course, or perfecting his barbeque skills in the backyard. Matt is a member of the Dare County Board of Education and a past member of the Duck Woods Country Club Board of Directors and Holy Redeemer by the Sea Pastoral Council.

Liz Brauer

Vice President & Accounts Manager

Liz was born in Northeast Ohio where she enjoyed a few summer vacations with family and friends on the Outer Banks. She is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Liz taught special education in greater Cincinnati for 8 years, where she met and married her husband, Matt. After the birth of their first two girls, she became a stay-at-home mom. Matt’s career took the family to Pittsburgh, where their 3rd daughter was born.

After moving the family to the Outer Banks, Liz joined the team at Beach Painting as the Office Manager. Using her superior organizational skills, she became an integral part of the company’s daily operations. Her duties have grown to include accounting, marketing, and human resources.

“The Outer Banks is a magical place. It is always a pleasure to stop and take in the glory of this place and the people who live and visit here.”

Liz enjoys spending time with her family, which has grown to four daughters since moving to the Outer Banks. In spite of a hectic schedule, she still finds time to volunteer in community organizations. Her favorite activities include yoga, walking, sitting at the edge of ocean, reading, piano, listening to music, and traveling.

As a teenager, she joined Guiding Light Apostolic Church and assisted in any way possible. She’s an honors graduate of ECPI College of Technology with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. Shortly after graduation, Tiffany married and moved to Camden County.

After 13 years of working in childcare and pre-K education at Pledger Palace, she joined Beach Painting and Beach Construction Group in 2019.

Tiffany enjoys spending time with her husband Clayton and their two boys. She remains an active member in her church.

Dustin Vann

Dustin Vann

Project Manager/Estimator

Originally from Suffolk, but raised in Gates County, North Carolina, Dustin came to the Outer Banks at the age of 18. He worked as a painter and a carpenter on the beach for a few years before joining Beach Painting full-time in 2009.

Dustin’s hard work and attention to detail led to his promotion to foreman later that year. Within a short period of time, he became a top-performing foreman at Beach Painting and also advanced his carpentry skills. From 2010 to 2014, he tackled some of the largest and most difficult projects including work for the Outer Banks Hospital, Dare County Water Department in Frisco, and the OB Brewing Station.

In 2014, he replaced his painter’s whites with khakis and accepted the challenge of becoming an estimator & project manager. His meticulous approach and customer-friendly attitude allowed him to quickly excel in this role, and to expand into the role of managing all painting operations; including estimating, productivity, material procurement, management of manpower needs, scheduling, and quality control.

Quality workmanship has always been one of Dustin’s strengths. “I like changing the look of a home for the better. I especially enjoy the fine detail work that shows quality and skill.”

Dustin enjoys playing softball and spending time at home and at the beach with his fiancé and two children.

Guy Carey

Guy Carey

Project Manager/Superintendent

Guy grew up in Virginia Beach and used to visit the Outer Banks in the Fall, enjoying the tranquility and smaller crowds. He moved to the OBX in 2000, having spent years managing large scale construction projects throughout the country.

Guy joined the Beach Painting family in 2010 as a carpenter. Within a short time he was running a carpentry crew as the foreman focusing primarily on rot repair. He was promoted to Superintendent in 2013 and is now responsible for the management of all carpentry crews. He also manages procurement of construction materials, coordination of contractors, maintenance of tools and equipment, safety, and all construction quality control. Guy handles the applications for building permits as well as scheduling the inspections. He also assists with estimating as needed.

Guy is a sportsman who enjoys all the OBX has to offer in terms of fishing. He also likes deer hunting when the time can be found.

Emil Moldovan

Project Manager/Estimator

Emil joined the Beach Painting Team in 2018 as a foreman bringing over 15 years of painting experience with him. Within a year he was promoted to project manager/estimator. Originally from the Cleveland area, he moved to the Outer Banks with his family in 1998, where he attended high school and worked for his family's painting business.

"I like being able to plan a job from start to finish and solve potential problems to make sure a job is done well and completed on time."

Emil enjoys softball, golf, and spending time with his wife and three kids.

Ken Westbury

Ken Westbury

Painting Superintendent

Ken joined Beach Painting 2002 as a painter. He was promoted to foreman and gained a reputation for managing large and complex projects. In 2014 he was promoted to Superintendent and tasked with additional field management and project coordination to meet the growing needs of the company. He has managed some of Beach Painting's largest and most impressive projects, including Cape Hatteras Secondary School, Manteo Elementary School, Nags Head Elementary School, the Outer Banks Hospital, the Roanoke Island Aquarium, and the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum.

“There’s nothing better than working on the beach every day. Our crews are good hard-working guys. Producing good work is always our goal.”

Ken lives on the mainland with his wife Michele and mother-in-law Candy. If there’s anything he likes more than the beach, it’s being in the woods. He likes to spend his free time fishing, hunting, grilling, and cooking on the smoker.
