What consumers should expect from a Professional Painting Contractor:
- Did you receive a typed estimate accurately defining the scope of work?
- Does the contractor have a minimum of 10 years of experience?
- Is the contractor a member of his trade organization, the PDCA (Painting
and Decorating Contractors of America)?
- Will the company perform the work with their full-time employees or will
they
use subcontractors?
- Obtain recent references with names, addresses and telephone numbers
and call them.
- When you call their office, do you receive courteous and prompt response
for
setting appointments?
- Does the contractor carry general liability and workers compensation
insurance on
their employees?
- If you award the contractor the project, ask their insurance carrier to send
you a certificate of insurance before work begins.
- Did you receive a set price on the proposal? If additional painting or repair
work is required a change order should be prepared outlining the
additional work and cost.
- Did you receive a written warranty?
